Description:

This rock formation is a long strip that runs from east to west, parallel to the beach of Poetto, with occasional transversal fractures

The dive begins with a descent along a guide line that is anchored directly onto the rocky ridge at a depth of approximately 14m. if we follow the route in the clockwise direction we proceed along the ridge. On our right is a step, on our left a sandy are of the seabed. If we follow the step we have completed a full circle and are on the other side of the reef. On our left is a collection of rock formations but we continue to follow the ridge until we reach a breach in the wall, where we can view the flora and fauna typically found in a coral bed. After this we follow the curve of the rock we reach the archway, which we’ll pass through on our way back. As we approach the end of the ridge it lowers into a point where the depth is approximately 20m, where a sandy bed is peppered with large granite masses. Turning right we follow the ridge along the other side. Our attention is drawn to a deep vertical fissure where we can find groupers and brown meagre along with a multitude of small invertebrates. After swimming another 30 metres we reach the entrance to the archway. We pass through the arch slowly, taking care not to damage the sea worms (Sertella beaniana) which carpet the passageway with our equipment.

As we exit the archway, we take the opposite direction and swim over the ‘roof’ of the archway, returning to the point of entry. From this point, we can complete our dive by swimming over the rocky area we saw at the start of the dive, before returning to the surface. We have been diving for approximately 60 minutes.
